Employment in Banks of India

Every year lot of senior bank employees are getting retirement. To fulfill their places, Indian Banks organizes recruitment/ exams and hires lot of enthusiastic citizens. Apart from this, whenever needs arises banks also conducts direct recruitment to fill the seats, temporarily.

Minimum Requirements: Usually young and bright aspirants with academic backgrounds in Business Management (Finance/ Marketing), Accountancy, Agriculture, Law, Matric/ 12th pass citizens/ Equivalent will be opted for most of the bank jobs in India. Ofcourse, experienced hands shall also be opted for some of the posts.

Other general skills that individuals must have to indulge on bank jobs are basic computer knowledge, reasoning, aptitude, general awareness and good communication.

Probationary Officer and Clerk Posts: Frequently all banks release notices for Probationary Officer (PO) and Clerk posts. Sometimes through big exams like IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) these posts will be filled in Indian Banks.

IBPS is a common written examination. After this written test on merit basis candidates will be called for interview. Final selection will be based on seeing the combined performance in test and interview. Individuals desiring to get employment in public sector banks and regional rural banks attempt this exam.

Newly passout candidates will wait for this opportunity and write this exam. That’s why the competition number is more than lakhs, in this exam. Due to 1 or 2% less cut-off marks sometimes contestants will lose opportunity to indulge as a bank employee. Because, the difficulty of these exams have been changed from moderate to high. For this, now most of the graduates are preparing using mock tests and by going to coaching classes.

If selected for PO posts, aspirants will have to work 2 years as probationer in concerned bank and for Clerk posts he/ she should have to work minimum 6 months as a probationer. Based on the hardwork and outstanding performances, he/ she will be appointed further permanently.

Selection Through Manipal University: Some of the banks like Syndicate, ICICI, Indian Bank, Baroda Bank, etc. are nowadays following a new method of selecting persons for Probationary Officer posts. That is, first it enrolls eligible candidates by conducting recruitment. Then selected candidates will have to do a PG Diploma course in banking & finance for 1 year, by spending their own money. On successful completion of training/ course, he/ she will be appointed as a PO in concerned units of bank.

Compensation Package and Other Allowances:

Salary is one of the notable thing which candidates will see while applying for government/ private jobs. Now the salary package of bank employees is going to become higher than usual. Because the Union and Indian Banks Association has increased it by 15%, due to various requests sent by workers association. From November 2017 onwards this system is going to be implemented and for next 5 years it won’t change.

First and all, on Saturdays the bank employees will work for half day.  Now the system has been totally changed i.e. the 2nd and 4th Saturdays have been announced as leave for bank employees, but on 1st & 3rd Saturdays they have to work on full day. Apart from these, other benefits like loan, provident fund, gratuity, pension, etc. are also applicable for employees.
